PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can be made thin while suppressing the occurrence of radio wave noise and the occurrence of image noise without causing a disadvantage to the strength of a housing in use, a housing for the image reader, and an image forming device in which the height of the image reader can be set to height so that the image reader can be easily operated by providing the image reader. SOLUTION: The housing 1 for an image reader is obtained by attaching a reinforcement member to a housing base body 10 with a bottom plate 12 fixed to a rectangular frame 11, wherein the reinforcement member is a reinforcement plate 13 having a drawing and lowering recessed area 131 for installing a read block 5 so as not to disturb the movement of original scanning units 31 and 32, drawing and lifting protruding area 132 and 133 located at front side and back sides adjusting to the recessed area 131, and a notch part 134 formed on reinforcement plate 13 from the recessed area 131 toward a scanning end side in a sub scanning direction (a) to arrange at least an image processing unit 7. The image reader A is made thin by adopting the housing 1. The image forming apparatus D has the height of an image reader set to the height so as to be easily handled by adopting the image reader A.
