PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress loading of a carriage motor, and eventually to suppress a cost rise even in a system of moving a cap body into and out of contact to a nozzle formation face of a recording head by utilizing movement of a carriage. SOLUTION: The capping mechanism of the image recorder is equipped with the carriage 5 which is set to be movable back and forth and holds the recording head, a rack body 53 which is disposed on the carriage 5 so as to follow a movement direction of the carriage 5, and an interlocking means 60 which interlocks a cap body holder 54 holding the cap body 52 and a gear 61 meshed with the rack body 53. The interlocking means 60 is configured to move the cap body 52 into and out of contact to the nozzle formation face 4a when the gear 61 rotates back and forth following the reciprocative movement of the rack body 53 with the carriage 5.
