PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner in which dust can be easily removed from a filter without lowering travelling performance of wheels in the process of ordinary operation, in a stick type vacuum cleaner. SOLUTION: A condition in which a pipe 6 is pushed down to be contracted for storing the vacuum cleaner is shown in a figure, a rack 13 disposed on one side face of the pipe 6 is moved downward accompanying motion of the pipe 6, a pinion 14 in an engaged state is rotated linked therewith, a disk-shaped cleaning means 15 connected by a shaft also rotates clockwise and rubs a face of the filter 7 to remove the dust. A condition in which the pipe 6 is pushed up to be extended for storing the vacuum cleaner, the rack 13 disposed on one side face of the pipe 6 is moved upward linked with the motion of the pipe 6, the pinion 14 in an engaged state is rotated linked therewith, the disk-shaped cleaning means 15 connected by the shaft also rotates counterclockwise to rub the face of the filter 7 to remove the dust.
