摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely judge a main scan positional gap of a recording head by a very simple system using an existing detecting mechanism, and to eliminate defects such as image failures due to ink leakage by excessive supply of ink or ink shortage. SOLUTION: A plurality of recording head units are provided. Each recording head unit supplies a recording liquid to the recording head which ejects liquid droplets of the recording liquid from nozzles, and has a negative pressure lever which shifts in a main scan direction according to a quantity of the recording liquid stored in a sub tank to which the recording liquid is supplied to supplement from a main tank. The recording head unit moves scanning operation in the main scan direction. The image forming apparatus has a negative pressure lever position detecting means which is disposed at a predetermined position along the main scan direction of the recording head unit and detects a position of the negative pressure lever equipped in a predetermined recording head unit among the plurality of recording head units, and a main scan positional gap detecting means which compares the position of the negative pressure lever with preliminarily stored position data of the negative pressure lever and detects the positional gap in the main scan direction of the recording head on the basis of the comparison result.
