PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stretchable fishing rod which can inhibit an impact contact of the outer peripheral surface of a rod butt side outer fitting portion of a small-diameter rod body with the inner surface of a large-diameter intermediate portion of a large-diameter rod body on the extension operation of the butt rod to moderate the impact force and prevent impact sounds, thereby enabling the elimination of the sense of incompatibility of a fisherman. SOLUTION: A steep diameter-expanded portion 7C having a steeply expanded rod diameter in a butt rod 1 is formed at the axially intermediate position of the butt rod 1. The fitting length L1 of a rod tip side outer fitting surface 2c of a tip rod 2 is larger than the fitting length L2 of a rod butt side outer fitting surface 2b of the tip rod 2. The rod tip side outer fitting surface 2c of the tip rod 2 maintains a state for fitting to the rod tip side inner fitting surface 1a of the butt rod 1, even in a state that the rod butt side outer fitting surface 2b of the tip rod 2 is placed at a position separated from the rod butt side inner fitting surface 1b of the butt rod 1 and close to the rod tip side of the rod butt side inner fitting surface 1b.
