<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it easier to grasp the surrounding situation of a vehicle C by securing the vehicle's forward visibility for an occupant M and protect a pedestrian when the vehicle is collided with the pedestrian again (secondary collision), after a hood 3 is lifted up due to the collision with the pedestrian, in the vehicle C mounted with a pedestrian protection device for lifting up the hood 3 by lifting the rear part of the hood 3 covering the upper part of an engine compartment when the collision with the pedestrian is detected. <P>SOLUTION: When the lifted up hood 3 is lowered, it is determined whether the vehicle C is stopped or is being traveled based on speed information from a vehicle speed sensor.
