<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a favorable imaging effect of panning while stopping an imaging apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes an image sensor for obtaining a picture image from an optical image that is projected to the image sensor through an optical system, a correction lens for moving the optical image on the image sensor, a motion detecting portion for detecting movement on the picture image of a moving subject. During an exposure period for panning photographing, the correction lens is controlled so as to track the moving subject on the basis of the movement of the moving subject detected in advance. The length of the exposure period is then set so as to obtain a desired flow blur degree in a background on the basis of the movement of the moving subject detected in advance.
