<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable stabilization of gain with respect to the change in rapid input signal optical power, to provide long-term reliability, and to set the gain value to an arbitrary value. <P>SOLUTION: In a gain-clamped optical amplifier, gain-clamp light is input in a steady manner to an inverted-population medium 2 which amplifies the input signal light, and the gain variations of the inverted-population medium 2 with respect to light power variation of an input signal light, which is commonly amplified with gain-clamped light is restrained. Specifically, light output power of gain-clamp light input to the inverted-population medium 2 is controlled so that the gain of the gain clamp light which depends on the ratio between the output gain-clamp light power and the input gain-clamp light power in the inverted-population medium 2 agrees with the gain of the gain-clamp light set value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
