<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a device for preventing the toner of developer from leaking from both the left and the right ends of each developing device. <P>SOLUTION: In the developing device, an area where a latent image on an image carrier 21 is developed by being in contact with the image carrier 21 and the magnetic brush of a developing roller 22 is referred to as a developing area D. In an area upstream of the developing area D of the developing roller 22 in the direction of its rotation, toner scattered from the surrounding of the developing roller 22 is prevented by magnetic shields of magnet sheets 24 attached to the internal peripheral face and end faces of the housing 29a, corresponding to the developing roller 22 and a toner scatter prevention plate 26. In an area downstream of the developing area D of the developing roller 22, the scattered toner is circulated into a developing tank from the gaps 31 of the ends of the lower housing 29b by an air current 30 produced by the rotation of the developing roller 22.
