According to the present invention a safety razor (10) incorporates a light energy device (40) adapted to provide a beneficial effect to the skin of the user of the safety razor during a normal shaving operation. The light energy emitted by the device has at least one wavelength in the range 200-1200nm. The light energy device can be one or more LEDs that can be powered by a battery or domestic AC. According to a further embodiment of the present invention a light energy assembly (110) is selectively attachable to the handle of a safety razor. The light energy assembly has a housing (112) and a light energy device (114).
