A data broadcasting receiving terminal and an application controlling method thereof are provided to control data broadcasting applications using application control signals provided from input devices such as a joy stick terminal, a game pad terminal, and a home network terminal connected to the data broadcasting receiving terminal, thereby realizing the application control through various input devices at improved speed. A data broadcasting receiving terminal(100) comprises a joy stick driver(110), a game pad driver(120), a wireless driver(130), a joy stick key converter(140), a game pad key converter(150), a wireless key converter(160), a data broadcasting middleware(170) including an event manager(180), and plural applications(190a,190b). The joy stick driver receives an application control signal outputted from a joy stick terminal(200). The game pad driver receives an application control signal outputted from a game pad terminal(300). The wireless driver is connected to a home network terminal(400) to receive an application control signal outputted from the home network terminal. The joy stick key converter, the game pad key converter, and the wireless key converter generate key events corresponding to the application control signals inputted from the joy stick driver, the game pad driver, and the wireless driver, and provides the generated key events to the event manager of the data broadcasting middleware. The event manager controls applications according to the provided key events.
