The method involves having an internal combustion engine (10), in which a first rotation indicator moving to a first position (24) along a crankshaft (12) of the internal combustion engine (10) is measured in which a second rotation indicator to a second position (26) along a crankshaft (12) of the internal combustion engine (10) is measured by using the first rotation indicator. The second rotation indicator of individual cylinders of rotation parameters is determined. The rotation indicators are monitored with the help of an observer (28).
