PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication apparatus which shortens the time of switching from speech telephone to video telephone without any break of speech during the switching from the speech telephone to the video telephone. SOLUTION: The wireless communication apparatus includes: a transmitting/receiving means (RX0/TX) for transmitting and receiving information by an 1x system and an EVDO system; a receiving means (RX1) for receiving the information by the 1x system and EVDO system; an input unit 11 which instructs switching from speech by the 1x system using the transmitting/receiving means (RX0/TX) to speech by the EVDO system using the transmitting/receiving means (TX0/TX); and a control unit 8 which performs system detection processing for detecting the EVDO system using the receiving means (RX1) when detecting the switching instruction by the input unit 11 during the speech by the 1x system using the transmitting/receiving means (RX0/TX).
