PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce effectively electric power consumption in a switching hub according to a status of use of network equipment and an operating state thereof under condition of not forcing a user to bear the burden. SOLUTION: Based on a change in current independently flowing after having inserted an electric-power-supply state detecting adapter 5 into a commercial AC power source input line of the DVD recorder 3, it is detected whether or not a main source of electrical power of the DVD recorder 3 is in an on-state for performing network communications. Then, when it has been detected that the DVD recorder 3 was in an on-state of its main source of electrical power (i.e., was practicing network communication), electric power is normally supplied in the switching hub to practice normal channel control. When in an off-state (i.e., in a state of not practicing the network communications), power supply is cut off and besides a first port terminal 11-1 and a second port terminal 11-2 are allowed to be connected with each other by a channel changeover switch 17 via a pulse transformer that is a passive circuit.
