PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inexpensively producing a metal nanoparticle-adhered base material without using special equipment and apparatus by a simple process. SOLUTION: Regarding the method for producing a metal nanoparticle-adhered base material, a base material is brought into contact with a chelate forming functional group-containing silane coupling agent, a metal nanoparticle forming metal salt and a reducing agent in the presence of a hydrolysis catalyst, thus the scattered matter or layered matter of metal nanoparticles is formed on the surface of the base material via the chelate forming functional group-containing silane coupling agent.
