PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which can highly accurately control the surface temperature of a fixing roller heated by a plurality of heaters. SOLUTION: Openings 6511 and 6512 in a shield member 65 are switched by a detection area switching section 65, and an infrared light sensor 64 thereby detects the temperatures Ta and Tb of the detection areas A and B of different ranges on the surface of the fixing roller 62. A temperature distribution curve in the whole of the fixing roller 62 in its longitudinal direction at this time is estimated from the detected temperature Ta and the value of the difference▵T between the detected temperatures Ta and Tb and energization control to a main heater and a sub-heater is performed while referring to a control table on which the controlled variables of the main heater and the sub-heater are preset in each temperature distribution curve.
