Image quality deterioration due to a polarizer is suppressed and light resistance is improved. A liquid crystal device is provided with a drive side substrate (1) whereupon a driving transistor (5), a pixel electrode (6) and an alignment layer are formed; an opposing substrate (2) whereupon an opposing electrode and an alignment layer are formed; a liquid crystal (4) sealed between the pixel electrode (6) of the drive side substrate (1) and the opposing electrode of the opposing substrate (2); and a reflection inorganic polarizer (3) formed between the driving transistor (5) and the pixel electrode (6) on the drive side substrate (1). A projection display device using such liquid crystal display device is also provided.
