PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform the statistical processing of a traffic flow of a broadband network while reducing a processing load.

SOLUTION: The network monitoring system gathers all communication packets on one or a plurality of monitor lines and totals predetermined traffic information to detect abnormal traffic, and includes: one or a plurality of gathering means of discriminating communication packets related to the abnormal traffic having already been detected and other communication packets; one or a plurality of individual totaling means of receiving the communication packets sorted as communication packets relating to the abnormal traffic having already been detected by each gathering means from each gathering means and totaling traffic information by the abnormal traffic; and an analyzing means of receiving totaled results obtained by each gathering means and each totaling means and performing predetermined analytic processing.
