GEM FRAME PROVIDE APPARATUS AND METHOD IN GIGABIT PASSIVE OPTICAL NETWORK

An apparatus and a method for providing a GEM frame of a gigabit passive optical subscriber network are provided to offer a GEM port assignment way to optical network terminals of all managers and subscribers by supporting various GEM port ID assignment ways according to a selection mode of a network manager. An apparatus provides a GEM(GPON Encapsulation Method) capable of identifying services of subscribers in a GPON(Gigabit Passive Optical subscriber Network). A service classifier(120) assigns a GEM port ID by classifying Ethernet frame service which is inputted through subscriber terminals(110), according to one of a plurality of GEM selection modes. A GEM port ID table(130) provides the GEM port ID assigned by the service classifier. A GEM frame converter(140) converts the Ethernet frame into the GEM frame by using the GEM port ID provided from the GEM port ID table.
