PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element which is capable of reducing resistance of a first electrode installed on a substrate, which prevents light emission unevenness due to a liquid collected in the vicinity of a barrier rib by devising a shape of the barrier rib, and which carries out uniform light emission of high brightness. SOLUTION: In the organic electroluminescent element equipped with the substrate, a first striped electrode installed on this substrate, the barrier rib installed between these first electrodes, an organic light-emitting medium layer installed at a region partitioned by the barrier ribs on the first electrode, and a second electrode opposed to the first electrode by pinching this organic light-emitting medium layer, the barrier rib includes a first barrier rib made of a metal material installed on both end parts of the first electrode, and includes a second barrier rib installed covering between the first electrode, and covering the upper face and the side face of the first barrier rib.
