PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a defective master or slave without causing detection error. SOLUTION: The failure detection method comprises executing processing P11 for determining a slave to stop its output; processing P12 for instructing output stop; processing P18 for determining, when a data bus 32 is normally recovered, the stopped slave is determined to have failed and reporting the failure to each FRU (Field Replaceable Unit); processing P17 for determining, when a monitored slave is a final slave, that a master is determined to have failed and reporting the failure to each FRU; processing P33 for changing, when counting of a timer 32 is completed, a slave to a new master; and processing P35 for determining that a previous master is determined to have failed and reporting the failure to each FRU.
