PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which jam processing is easily executed without any trouble only by opening a component around a fixing device, thereby automatically pulling out jammed paper. SOLUTION: A printer 1 includes an openable and closable outer cover 11 exposing the fixing device 40 on the downstream side of the fixing device 40 in the conveying direction of paper, a pinion 14 provided to the shaft portion 42a of a fixing roller 42 and a rack 13 which is joined to the outer cover 11 and engaged with the pinion 14, in addition to the fixing device 40 provided with the fixing roller 42 and a pressure roller 43. In the opening process of the outer cover 11, the pinion 14 engaged with the rack 13 is rotated and the fixing roller 42 is rotated in a direction where the surface of the place of a fixing nip portion is moved in the conveying direction of the paper. Thus, when the paper is jammed in the fixing device 40, the outer cover 11 is only opened, so that the jammed paper P can be automatically pulled out toward the outside of the apparatus in the conveying direction of the paper.
