<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning device for an image forming apparatus, capable of reducing variation in time required for a cleaning member to start moving after the start of the drive of a driving mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: The cleaning device 3 includes: the cleaning member 4 for cleaning an LSU glass 23; a holder 5 holding the cleaning member 4; and the driving mechanism 6 for linearly reciprocating the holder 5, thereby moving the cleaning member 4 within a predetermined area. The driving mechanism 6 includes: a pinion 61 that has a rotating shaft extending toward the left and right and held by the holder 5; a driving belt 62 extending toward the front and back, and engaged with the pinion 61, thereby rotating the pinion 61; and a rack 63 extending toward the front and back and engaged with the pinion 61. Non-engaging areas S1 and S2 for disengaging from the pinion 61 are provided in the directions of the front and back of the rack 63. With the cleaning member 4 located at either one of the ends of the predetermined area, the pinion 61 is located in the corresponding non-engaging area S1 or S2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
