<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain fixability and to reduce an amount of curling regardless of various conditions such as recording material type/leaving conditions. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a fixing device for fixing an image by melting a toner image on a recording material under heat, and changes the fixing temperature of the fixing device according to a change in the shape of the recording material after fixing. In the image forming apparatus, a detecting means for detecting a recording material is disposed in the downstream of the fixing device in the direction of recording material conveyance. A change in the shape of the recording material is determined based on the length of time that the recording material being conveyed is detected by the detecting means.
