Provided is a light source unit which can prevent display qualities from deteriorating due to "warping" of a diffuser plate. The light source unit has the diffuser plate having a main surface facing a light source in a light source chassis. The light source unit is provided with a placing table at least under a corner section of the diffuser plate. The placing table is provided with a diffuser plate placing section, and a protruding section formed along the outer edge of the diffuser plate. The protruding section has light blocking effects and is formed higher than the upper surface of the diffuser plate.
