The invention relates to the use of phosphonic acid diesters and diphosphonic acid diesters (A) as reactants and/or catalysts for compounds (B) that can be reacted by transesterification, transamidation, self-condensation of N-hydroxyalkylamine groups and/or N-alkoxyalkylamine groups, transacetalization of N-alkoxyalkylamine groups and/or acetalization of N-hydroxyalkylamine groups.
