An indoor unit for an air conditioner is provided to enhance spatial efficiency by detaching a heat exchanging unit from a purifying unit when the heat exchanging unit is not used. An indoor unit for an air conditioner comprises a blowing unit(340), a purifying unit(300) and a heat exchanging unit(200). The blowing unit produces a current of air to suck and discharge indoor air. The purifying unit purifies the air, which is sucked by the blowing unit. The heat exchanging unit allows the purified air to exchange heat through refrigerant. The heat exchanging unit and the purifying unit are selectively separated from each other. A coupling projection(150) and a projection fitting part(152) that mate with each other are formed on one side of the heat exchanging unit and the purifying unit, respectively.
