An apparatus and a method for providing time information in a GLR(Gateway Location Register) are provided to allow a mobile terminal to receive a standard time in a currently located area to thereby set its time. When a location registration message is received from a mobile terminal(10) which has been roamed to a foreign country, a location registration processing unit(33) authenticates the mobile terminal. If the mobile terminal is successfully authenticated, the location registration processing unit completes location registration, and informs the mobile terminal about the completion of the location registration. When a time information providing unit receives a request for providing time information to the mobile terminal from the location registration processing unit, it checks whether a visited network into which the mobile terminal has been roamed provides time information. If the visited network does not provide time information, the time information providing unit provides time information to the mobile terminal by using a time setting message. Meanwhile, a time information provider(35) searches a time information providing table based on the identification information of the network into which the mobile terminal is currently roamed, and checks over whether or not the searched network provides time information.
