A method and a system for configuring an active/passive mixer and a shared GM stage are provided to be operated in an active mode or a passive mode by installing a radio frequency mixer using a single shared GM stage in a frequency demodulator. A method for configuring an active/passive mixer and a shared GM stage includes the steps of: configuring a radio frequency mixer(330,340) to be operated in a passive mode or an active mode in a frequency demodulator; converting a passive configuration of at least one mixer stage to an active configuration of the mixer stage in the frequency demodulator; sharing a single GM stage(306) by an in-phase processing path and a quadrature processing path of the radio frequency mixer; and activating at least one switch to operate the radio frequency mixer in the active mode or the passive mode.
