METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INTRA MODE PREDICTION SEARCHING FOR COMPRESSION OF REAL TIME VIDEO SIGNAL

An intra-mode prediction and search method for compressing a video signal in real time and an apparatus therefor are provided to perform intra-mode prediction and search at high speed between an inter-mode prediction method and an intra-mode prediction method. A threshold value determining unit(503) measures the rate-distortion cost of a video signal macroblock received from the outside, compares the rate-distortion cost of the received macroblock with the rate-distortion cost of an adjacent macroblock, and determines a search threshold value. An inter-mode calculating unit(505) measures an error sum according to an inter-mode of the received macroblock. A last inter-mode determining unit(507) compares the measured error sum and determines the last inter-mode having the minimum error sum. An intra-mode calculating unit(511) determines intra-mode prediction and search in response to the minimum error sum of the determined last inter-mode and the search threshold value.
