The method involves referencing or orienting a measuring device relative to measuring locations (1) on a vehicle with the aid of referenced inspection feature (11), arranged on the measuring location under defined measuring location coordinates. The measuring location coordinates of the referenced inspection feature are measured once or intermittently by a predetermined testing feature arrangement (12). The testing feature arrangement records one of the perspective images by a measuring device in which images are located in addition to the measured referenced inspection feature. An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the method.
