PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricating oil composition for a deep freezer, and to provide a method for lubrication in a compression type freezing cycle using a cooling medium mainly composed of a hydrocarbon, capable of effectively lubricating and improving wear resistance, stability and freezing effect. SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition for the deep freezer is composed of (A) the cooling medium mainly composed of a 1-8C hydrocarbon and (B) at least one base oil selected from the group consisting of alkylbenzenes, alkylnaphthalenes and poly-α-olefins having a non-aromatic group unsaturation degree of 10% or less and a kinetic viscosity of 5 mm<SP>2</SP>/s or over at 100°C.
