<p>A method of controlling call admission in a communication system comprises predicting an estimated base station noise rise due to a new user wishing to join a cell of the system; determining availability of resources based on the predicted noise rise due to the new user; and allocating resources only if the predicted noise rise due to the new user does not cause a maximum total permitted noise rise level in the system to be exceeded. A matrix of average geometric cross coupling coefficients between cells is predetermined and stored for each base station, with elements for the base station's immediate neighbours. The reported measurements of the mobile of the new user, together with the predetermined cross coupling coefficients from the matrix are used to determine whether to admit the new user.</p> |
