PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION FOR PREVENTION OF TREATMENT OF NEURODEGENERATIVE DISEASE AND INHIBITION OF NADPH OXIDASE

A pharmaceutical composition comprising fluoxetine or norfluoxetine is provided to inhibit activity of NADPH(nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate) oxidase and prevent death of dopaminergic neurons in microglia and reduce toxicity, so that the composition is useful for prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disease. A pharmaceutical composition for prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease, Huntinton's disease, Lou Gehrig's disease and ischemic cerebrovascular accident, comprises fluoxetine represented by the formula(1) or norfluoxetine represented by the formula(2), optical isomers thereof or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, wherein the daily dosage of the compounds is 0.01 to 1 mg/kg.
