A portable apparatus comprises a USB autorun device that when connected to a PC automatically establishes itself as a known type of device, preferably a CD-ROM, and sends a sequence of data, such as key codes, to the PC which causes access to content or a task to be initiated. The USB device includes a a USB microcontroller which is designed to be attached to or embedded in an application specific package. Preferably the key codes comply with the human interface device (HID) protocol. The USB autorun module may be a USB IC module or a an Integrated circuit card. In one embodiment the key codes transferred may be a URL causing the terminal to open a specific website. The data passed may include a user or device type ID allowing the user or device to be authenticated. Various embodiments of the device include using it allow access to a community or blog website, an email application, an online radio station, retailer or online subscription service. |
