The invention relates to a tool 10 for positioning molding, i.e. crown molding 12, during installation. The tool 10 comprises a base member 18 adapted to be releasably hung on a wall 14 near the ceiling. A retaining member 28 is vertically slidably mounted on the base member 18 and has an upper end portion 42 disposed at an acute angle to hold a piece of molding 12 at a desired attitude between the retaining member 28 and the wall 14. The retaining member 28 is slid and locked in position to hold the molding 12 in place while it is fastened to the wall 14, after which the tool 10 is removed from the wall 14. The retaining member 28 upper end portion 42 may be pivotally mounted in the retaining member 28 to allow the acute angle to be varied and locked in position. |
