MULTIMEDIA FILE PLAYER HAVING A ELECTRONIC DICTIONARY SEARCH FUCTION AND SEARCH METHOD THEREOF

A multimedia file player capable of searching an e-dictionary and a search method thereof are provided to search a word included in a caption when a moving picture file or a caption file is displayed in synchronization with an audio file while playing a multimedia file by recognizing a position of the selected word, extracting a character string from the caption file, and searching the character string from the e-dictionary. A pointer position recognizing module(100) generates a maximum caption length to be displayed in a screen and word position information representing a position of a pointer pointing a word in the maximum caption length. A caption synch signal detecting module(200) detects a caption synch signal for discriminating the caption file displayed in the current screen among the caption file. A caption file searching and character string extracting module(300) discriminates the caption file including the word by using the word position information and the caption synch signal, and extracts a character string corresponding to the word from the caption file. An e-dictionary searching module(400) extracts word information corresponding to the character string from an e-dictionary database(450). A popup window activating module(500) generates a popup window and displays the word information in the popup window.
