A semiconductor white light emitting device is provided to easily adjust the light emitting intensity of green light and blue light to a desired light emitting intensity by including green and blue light emitting layers having a less ratio of In than a light emitting layer capable of emitting red light. A semiconductor light emitting device(2) has green and blue light emitting layers including In. A phosphor(6) can emit red light. The phosphor can emit red light by light having a wavelength not more than that of blue light. The semiconductor light emitting device can have an ultraviolet light emitting layer. The phosphor can emit red light by light having a wavelength not more than that of ultraviolet rays.
