An apparatus for adaptively removing a cross color artifact and a method therefor are provided to remove the cross color artifact effectively by adaptively performing the notch filtering of a luminance component by using a change quantity of a color component when processing image information divided into the luminance component and the color component. A color component analyzing unit(21) calculates a color component change quantity for input pixel data, and calculates a bandwidth according to the calculated color component change quantity. A filter coefficient determining unit(22) determines a filter coefficient of a notch filter by using the calculated bandwidth. A notch filter unit(23) performs the notch filtering of a luminance component of the pixel data by using the determined filter coefficient.
