Wire, use of a wire and welding process

In a welding process to repair a brittle metal component e.g. a gas turbine engine blade, the welding rod employed has a metal outer sleeve (7) that is capable of plastic deformation, while the rod core is of the same type of metal of the item under repair. The sleeve and core are of different materials. The wire rod core material is present in powder form, which when converted to solid form is brittle. The core material is e.g. cobalt or nickel. Further claimed is a commensurate welding rod and welding process.
