A method for controlling a vehicle is provided to increase an amount of air introduced into an engine by retarding idle ignition timing of the engine. An operational signal of a power steering of a vehicle is received at an MBT(Maximum Brake Torque Timing) ignition time or at a first ignition time adjacent to the MBT ignition time. A set value of a timer is changed into a first set value if the operational signal of the power steering is input(S15). The set value of the timer is reduced to a second set value less than the first set value when the operational signal of the power steering is stopped(S40,S50). An engine is driven by delaying the idle ignition time of an engine. The ignition time is maintained to the second set value until the operational signal of the power steering is stopped if the idle ignition time of the engine reaches the second ignition time(S30).
