A mobile terminal for controlling a frame rate and its control method are provided to lengthen a video call time by reducing power consumption of a battery. A camera(11) captures an image of a subject. An image processing unit(12) encodes image data received from the camera at the first frame rate to process it. When a video call starts, a power state detecting unit(13) detects a current power state of a mobile terminal to check whether the mobile terminal is in a power saving mode. If the mobile terminal is in the power saving mode and the first frame rate is larger than a certain threshold value, a frame rate adjusting unit(14) reduces the first frame rate to the second frame rate. A message generating unit(15) generates a control message requesting adjustment of a reception frame rate according to the second frame rate. |
