An image processing apparatus and a noise attenuation method therefor are provided to calculate a noise of an input signal and a noise generated in each processing module and adjust a filter coefficient of each processing module variably to minimize the noise generated in each processing module. A preprocessor unit(110) preprocesses an inputted image signal. A plurality of processing modules(130) successively process the preprocessed image signal. A noise estimating unit(120) estimates the first noise value for the preprocessed image signal, estimates the second noise value generated in each of a plurality of the processing modules according to a plurality of the processing modules, and provides the estimated noise value to each of a plurality of the processing modules. Each of a plurality of the processing modules attenuates a noise of the image signal by using a filter coefficient calculated from the first and the second noise values.
