<p>A method for controlling a switched reluctance machine is provided to energize a phase to make flux in a stator bipolar when using unipolar flux in a rotor pole. A method for controlling a switched reluctance machine includes the step of: energising windings so that flux in each of rotor poles is unipolar for successive energisation of the windings when the rotor poles are in substantial alignment with energised stator poles. The switched reluctance machine has a stator(60) and a rotor(66). The stator defines the stator poles having the windings arranged with three separated energisable phases at least. The rotor defines the rotor poles. The machine has six stator poles, four rotor poles, and three separated energisable phases. An energisation pattern for each phase includes two pulses of energisation of one polarity and two pulses of energisation of the other polarity.</p> |
