A method for detecting and protecting motor short in a hybrid car is provided to protect a motor by preventing the temperature of the motor from rising through reducing an induced current by applying a current to a coil. A method for detecting and protecting motor short in a hybrid car includes the steps of: detecting short by comparing a value of a current applied to a three-phase cable of a motor with a reference value(S3,S5,S7); and protecting the motor by inducing flux in a direction opposite to flux generated with a magnet by applying the current to a rotor coil of the motor in detecting the motor short(S4,S6,S8). The method for detecting and protecting the motor short in the hybrid car further includes the step of blinking a warning lamp by outputting a signal corresponding to the detection of the motor short to a hybrid control unit.
