A series of genes identified in Group B Streptococcus or a functional fragment thereof are provided to be useful for preparing a therapeutic agent such as a vaccine to immunize a patient against microbial infection. A peptide used for therapy comprises any one of amino acid sequences described in SEQ ID L NOs. 2,4, 6,8,10,11,13,15,17,19,21,23,25,27,29,31,33 and 35, or a homologue thereof having at least 95% of homology thereto. A polynucleotide encodes the peptide. A host is transformed to express the peptide. A vaccine comprises the peptide. To screen a potential medicine, a produce according to the peptide or the polypeptide is used. A medicine for treating or preventing diseases associated with bacterial infection comprises the product according to the peptide or the polypeptide, wherein the infection is a Group B streptococcal infection, a focal infection or a urinary tract infection.
