The method involves determining a general expression of a thermal profile of drilling mud at the interior of a string of rods in wells and a general expression of a thermal profile of drilling mud in an annular corresponding to an exterior space of the rods. A rule linking Nusselt numbers to parameters e.g. axial flow reynolds numbers, Prandtl numbers and rotational reynolds numbers, is chosen, where the rule is in a form of a specific equation having parameters e.g. derivable and continuous functions. The rule is utilized to establish the thermal profile in the mud in an annular flow.
