The cover has upper and lower shells (4, 5) for surrounding a steering column. The upper shell is provided with, at the level of its upper part, a storage housing (7) accessible from exterior of the cover. A mobile cover plate (6) selectively releases access to the housing from exterior of the cover, where the housing is accessible by an upper opening and stores objects e.g. portable cellular phone. The shells form passages of control units (12) of a motor vehicle.
