PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which is so compact that it can be mounted on electronic equipment and performs exact range-finding. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus 20 includes: a photographic optical system 200; an imaging device 54 to photoelectrically convert a subject image formed by the photographic optical system; and a drive mechanism to change the relative position of at least a part of the photographic optical system to the imaging device in a direction different from the optical axis direction of the photographic optical system. Information generating means 81p and 81y generate information on a distance to a subject by using a plurality of photographic images obtained by the imaging device in a state where the relative position differs.
