PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricating oil additive for providing a high coefficient of static friction and a lubricating oil composition obtained by mixing the same with a base oil. SOLUTION: The lubricating oil additive is the reaction product of (A) a succinimide, (B) a phenol represented by the formula (1) (wherein, R is hydrogen or a 1-8C hydrocarbon group; x is 1 or 2) and (C) an aldehyde or ketone represented by the formula (2) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each hydrogen or a 1-20C hydrocarbon group).
